Teach students in the field on 1,600 acres in southern Indiana
A unique expression of IU Bloomington's green campus tradition, the RTP offers experiential learning opportunities to K–12 and IU classes, as well as community workshops.
For a semester or an afternoon, take your class outside for to conduct experiments, collect data, learn about land maintenance and use, get on the water, understand history, or make art. Explore examples of our recent college classes.
Or make use of our LEED-certified Field Lab with fully-equipped classrooms, Arc GIS access, computer lab, and equipment.
Our classes generally take place at our Griffy Woods site, which has hiking trails, University Lake access, the Willard Pavilion, and the lab.
This special classroom also presents special considerations. Prepare to teach in the Field Lab and at the Preserve:
- Reserve facilities in advance.
- Our facilities are nearby but hidden away. Plan to help students or bus drivers navigate. (We recommend meeting at a central location and carpooling.)
- Check the weather.
- Assess accessibility needs as you design your course.
- We are home to ongoing, world-class experiments. Make sure your students know not to touch equipment or go off-trail without express permission.
